For me, the introduction to Eartha Kitt went through unusual channels. You’ll probably remember the incredibly mediocre Walt Disney Feature Animation film, The Emperor’s New Groove? If you don’t, you’re not to blame. The Mark Dindal directed film was generic, bleak and totally hopeless — a weak version of its original Roger Allers-version. There was one flicker of light though. Eartha Kitt as the plotting Emperor’s advisor, Yzma.
Her raw voice, the automatic wit that comes with it and her grand comedic timing made the animated feature at least somewhat enjoyable. Because of Yzma, I tuned in to watch a CBS feature about her, and immediately fell in love with her. Cut to me, digging into her biography and buying as much of her music as possible.
The fabulous live recordings, the magical tranquility and the humorous anecdotes, it’s why Eartha Kitt is one of the best entertainment performers. Her rendition of “Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes)” has become my favorite song of all time. Don’t like soul? It’s a miracle, but her album “Eartha Kitt l’Album” is a classic pop/dance album, and will suit you then! Go out and buy one of her greatest hits compilations now! You won’t regret it. (If you do, sue me.)

So, I stopped doing comments on my blog. Twitter, Facebook, and good-old e-mail do a much better job, in my experience and opinion.
