Here it is, the first teaser for my space opera short subject, The Prince of Mars and the Red Planet Gala. It doesn’t reveal much and stays pretty straight-forward throughout — but that’s why it’s a teaser. Anyway, like the title? Because it’s basically a “preview” version of the whole bigger picture, I can’t use a title that reveals too much of what has happened before or after, so don’t bug me about the vagueness.
What I can reveal is the names of the main characters. So, the title character is obviously the Prince of Mars, who has two names: his Earth-name Lex (by which he is most-commonly referred to) and his official name of Ben-Di. The Princess is named Ilan-a, she rules over a neighbouring solar system. (In the teaser she is referred to as the “seven-suns princess.”) Her brother is Prince Max-a, and her closest ally General Seli. The remaining main character is Waldon, president of the Red Planet Union.
That’s all the information I’m giving you now, you’ll just have to wait for more.
A few additional notes about the teaser (and stuff):
- I’m not a composer, so you’ll just have to bear with the soundless version. I made a “score” for it, but got frustrated with the timing of it all and eventually threw it out;
- Yes, it’s not a great piece of editing. Boo-freaking-hoo. I’m also not an editor, so I did my best. I think I have the basic Final Cut stuff figured out, but not all the fancy stuff yet;
- I know, “Over 350 years from now,” is not a fantastically-constructed sentence, but I didn’t want to make the sentence longer;
- “Seven-suns princess” refers to the fact that her solar system holds seven suns, yes;
- Trust me, I know this is an ordered list even though it should’ve been a unordered one, but somehow the stylesheet doesn’t show bullets/hyphens (and I’m not changing it just for this one post).
So, has the teaser made you excited? It should’ve! More information will come soon, soon.
(Website has been launched now too, at martianprince.com. (Visiting princeofmars.com also works.) It’s just the same information as you’ll find everywhere else, but I’ll continue developing it later.)
"Hey, I just wanted to — Wait. Where did the commenting form go?"
So, I stopped doing comments on my blog. Twitter, Facebook, and good-old e-mail do a much better job, in my experience and opinion.
